Etched Carnelian originates from the Indus Valley Civilization. Patterns were drawn on carnelian beads using a solution derived from plants, known as natron, and then baked at low temperatures of about 300 to 400 degrees Celsius. These beads have been excavated from sites in Mesopotamia and Afghanistan, but they are believed to have been made in the Indus Valley region and transported via land and sea routes.
