Binding: Attractive and very good original blind-stamped decorated brown calf leather (hinges fine, overall worn and scuffed - as shown, corners slightly worn - as shown) under a protective removable mylar cover.
Content: Good to very good content (bright, tight, name -Malcolm Patterson- of a previous owner on the first endpaper - as shown and his relative -Douglas Patterson dated 1855- on a blank page at the rear of the volume - as shown, light foxing and staining - as shown).

The book: Scarce and attractively bound Gaelic mid 19th-century edition of the New Testament and Psalms.  

The translator: James Stuart or James Stewart (1701–1789) was minister of Killin and worked with poet Dugald Buchanan on the Scottish Gaelic New Testament published in 1767. His son, Dr John Stuart (1743–1821) of Luss, continued to work on the Old Testament published in 1801. His daughter married James McLagan, minister at Amulree.
