In the summer of 405 A.D., 16-year old Succat is torn from his home by Irish raiders and sold across the sea as a slave. His repeated escape attempts bring him savage beatings from his new owners until he strikes up an unlikely friendship with the young Druid Cormac. As Succat learns more of the cult dreaded and feared by his people, he realises that it may be his only chance of escape. He is welcomed into their brotherhood, accepts a new name and experiences a vision of powerful that it is believed he is marked for greatness. Yet all he wants to do is go home; and when the chance finally comes, all he finds is devastation.
