This vivacious late 1980s sateen and lace cocktail dress in cobalt blue is by the famous London boutique Roots and is playful, dynamic and in excellent vintage condition. Sadly the boutique which was located in fashionable Chelsea, closed its doors in the 1990s. The dress is a classic mid eighties does 1950s style, with a corseted bodice and a flared tutu skirt finishing just above the knee. The blue, black and red is designed to reflect the bold, power dressing sensibility of the era and has an unmistakably vibrant aesthetic. It is comprised of blue sateen fabric with a black lace overlay on the bodice interspersed with red appliqué roses. There is a sweetheart neckline leaving the upper back bare and a slightly dropped waistline, with artful interior structuring to accentuate the figure. The skirt has a netted petticoat to excite additional volume and features 4 x oversize bow details in black sateen that surround the dress below the waistline. There is a central zip fastening at the reverse. This show stopping piece is exciting, youthful, and would be perfect for parties. Would best suit a US size 4, UK Size 8.
