This spectacular duchess dress in turquoise satin has magnificent construction and emulates the extravagance and glamour of the 1950s. The sleeveless bodice has a subtle square neckline at the front, and graduates in a V at the reverse. The wide 4.5 inch waistband starts directly beneath the bust and is gently rushed, incorporating a band of paler seafoam coloured satin to define the silhouette. The waistband is corseted beneath the fabric and the construction continues over the hips to create a crinoline effect, elevating the skirt and in turn dramatically accentuating the waistline. The full skirt falls in soft pleats to the lower calf and is reinforced with a layer of stiff starched fabric and a double layer of thick calico that makes up the petticoat and protective lining beneath the corset. In superb vintage condition, would best suit a US size 4, UK size 8 being mindful that the corseted waist doesn't permit much give. Unlabelled but of excellent quality. Our model is a UK 6-8 and 5ft 4in. (163cm) and this dress was roomy on the bust but was a good fit everywhere else.
