Yoko Yates
Description:
Hokkaido-born, New York-based pianist Yoko Yates makes her debut with a piece of music that weaves tantalizing phrases with her solid playing technique. Yates' compositional style and ideas were shaped by this unique environment. After graduating from Berklee College with a B.A., Yates went on to earn an M.A. in Education from Lesley University in Cambridge. He further pursued doctoral studies in music education at Teachers College, Columbia University, New York. Currently, he has been a piano instructor at Greenwich House Conservatory of Music in Manhattan and the Brooklyn Academy of Music since 1996. While continuing to perform as a pianist and occasional vocalist, she is also active as a composer, composing the sandtrack compositions for the documentary film "Mothers' Way, Daughters' Choice. Yoko Yates' delicately crafted original compositions shine through the beautiful playing of all the members." This is a debut album that deserves a special mention.(Scott Lee/Producer) "Yoko's music is imaginative, fun, beautiful and natural. It incorporates a variety of genres and has a depth that blows my mind. Her unique style appeals to a wider audience than just jazz lovers." (David Gahan, lead singer of Depeche Mode, a band in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2020) "Goes beyond what words can express." (Kyoko Gaya, documentary film director)
