Description:
Tigran Chuhajan is one of the most important figures in the history of Armenian music. He was the first composer in Armenia to "fuse Western and Eastern cultures," and although his music was suppressed during the Ottoman Empire, he was highly regarded by his contemporaries, who called him "the Verdi of Armenia. In this world premiere recording of his piano music, the influence of Chopin and Liszt is strongly felt, but each piece is imbued with oriental nuances and expresses Chukhajan's uniqueness. Pianist Ira Petian is a pianist and composer who has worked to raise the international profile of Armenian music. He has released more than 10 albums of Armenian piano music, including his own compositions, Komitas and Baghdasarian, as well as actively introducing Armenian music at concerts where he himself serves as producer.
