Description:
Sergei Rachmaninoff, the greatest Russian composer of the 20th century, was also a virtuoso piano player (and an excellent conductor) who was not afraid of extreme technicalities. He began recording in 1919, the year he left Russia for the United States to escape the difficulties of the Revolution, and continued uninterruptedly until 1942, the year before his death, leaving behind 10 CDs worth of recordings for posterity. He left 10 CDs worth of recordings for posterity, including one CD of Rachmaninoff conducting his own compositions, the complete piano concertos and solo piano works with the Philadelphia Orchestra, a prestigious orchestra in which he played piano himself, performances of Beethoven, Chopin, and other ancient and modern masterpieces as a pianist, and piano transcriptions (a unique feature of composers). This "Complete Works" was released at a mid-price in 1992 and sold very well, but it was re-released at a budget price in 2005 and in 2009 for the first time in Japan at a bargain price. This is a re-release of the first budget-priced Japanese edition released in 2009.
