Scelsi, Giacinto (1905-1988)
Description:
The famous pianist Liebner gives a great performance of Scelsi, the mysterious and unorthodox composer! Giacinto Scelsi is one of the most unusual composers of the 20th century. He did not write his own scores, but began in the 1950s to record his improvisations and have them notated by others, resulting in a large number of works that were compiled into suites. Although he was regarded as a heretic during his lifetime, his popularity increased after his death, and he gained many fans. Suite No. 8 is subtitled "Botba," which means Tibet. This is a worldview unique to Scelsi, who also showed a deep interest in Eastern philosophy. Suite No. 11 is the last suite to be compiled. Zabine Liebner is a pianist who has released many albums on the WERGO label, and is a master of contemporary music such as Stockhausen, Cage, Feldman, and Kagel. Scelsi is naturally in his repertoire, and in 2015 he released an album (WER-6794) containing Suite Nos. 9 and 10, which received high acclaim. It is no exaggeration to say that this album, too, is the best Scelsi recording ever to appear on the market. King International
