The long-running Oris Change for the Better mantra has inspired collaborations with some of the world’s leading agents of change, and for 2023, the Swiss maker has partnered with Bracenet, an innovative social enterprise which makes accessories from upcycled 'ghost' fishing nets — and now, for the first time, spectacular watch dials, to be fitted to Oris' signature tool dive watch: the Aquis Date.
Making these kaleidoscopic dials involves taking small green, blue and white offcuts from discarded fishing nets and gently warming them until they melt into the raw material. As they cool, they harden into a thin sheet of material. This is then cut to size, planed, and sanded down until it’s just 0.3mm thick. The material contains no additives, fillers or glues. No two dials are the same.
Built around each dial is a rugged, multi-piece stainless steel case water resistant to 300 meters. This Aquis is powered by an Oris Cal. 733 automatic movement, instantly recognizable by its bright red winding rotor visible through the exhibition caseback.
Each watch will be delivered in the Oris grey presentation box made from sustainable and recyclable paper — one of the brand's many recent developments towards achieving a company-wide climate neutral status.
